Overview
Cooperstown All Star Village (ASV) is a week-long youth baseball tournament resort in Oneonta, NY — about 20 miles south of Cooperstown village itself. ASV is a separate program from Cooperstown Dreams Park; don't confuse the two.
Tournament weeks run Sunday through Saturday, roughly mid-June through mid-August, for 9U–12U travel teams. Every player gets a championship ring at closing ceremonies — an ASV signature.

Travel
Nearest airports
| Airport | Code | Drive to ASV | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Albany International | ALB | ~75 mi / 1h 30m | Most flight options; most teams use this |
| Syracuse Hancock | SYR | ~95 mi / 1h 45m | Solid secondary choice |
| Binghamton | BGM | ~65 mi / 1h 15m | Closest but very limited service |
| Stewart (Newburgh) | SWF | ~130 mi / 2h 15m | Sometimes cheaper from southern states |
All four have on-site rental cars (Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, National, Budget). Teams traveling with equipment typically reserve a 12–15 passenger van plus an SUV for gear.
Option A — American Airlines group booking
American's Group & Meetings Travel program is available for 10+ passengers on the same itinerary.
- Quote process: Submit online; AA group desk typically responds in 1–3 business days with a contracted fare held for a limited window.
- Lead time: 30+ days minimum; longer is better for price.
- Deposit: Non-refundable deposit to lock the contract (commonly ~$100/passenger).
- Name-list deadline: Typically 30–60 days before departure.
- Biggest advantage for youth teams: AA generally allows name substitutions up to ~48–72 hours before departure — materially more flexible than individual tickets, which usually don't allow name changes at all.
- Group perk: Historically one comp ticket per ~40 paid passengers (confirm).
Option B — Charter bus
Northeast operators commonly used for youth-sports charters: Academy Bus, Peter Pan, Coach USA, Martz Group, Trailways, Hampton Jitney, Birnie Bus (Syracuse area), Wolf's Bus Lines (PA).
- Cost ballpark: Full-size 55-passenger coach, 7-day round-trip from NJ/NY/PA/CT, roughly $8,000–$14,000 all-in, plus driver lodging. Confirm with operators.
- Drivers: FMCSA limits a single driver to 10 hours of driving per day. Most Northeast origins are under that; one driver usually works with a lay-over at a local hotel.
- Pros: Everyone arrives together with gear, no TSA/baggage hassle, single price.
- Cons: 4–8+ hour ride each way, less comfortable, one breakdown affects everyone.
Option C — Driving yourself
- NYC metro → ~3h 30m (175 mi via I-87/I-88)
- Philadelphia → ~4h 30m (230 mi)
- Boston → ~4h 45m (260 mi)
- Washington, DC → ~6h 30m (360 mi)
- Free on-site parking at ASV (confirm rules for RVs / oversized vehicles)
Getting around once there
Uber/Lyft coverage in Oneonta/Cooperstown is thin and unreliable — wait times over 20–30 minutes are common, late-night rides may be unavailable. Families attending should plan on a rental car or their own vehicle. ASV is self-contained but any trip off-complex (Hall of Fame, restaurants, hotels) requires driving.
Lodging
Players stay in ASV bunkhouses — included in the team registration. Families book separately. The big decision: stay close to the ballpark (Oneonta, ~5–15 min) or close to the Hall of Fame and Main Street (Cooperstown village, ~30–40 min each way).
Closest hotels to ASV (Oneonta area)
National chains cluster near I-88 exits 13–15:
- Hampton Inn Oneonta — breakfast, pool
- Holiday Inn Express Oneonta — breakfast, pool, laundry
- Courtyard by Marriott Oneonta — newer, restaurant on site
- Fairfield Inn & Suites Oneonta — breakfast, pool
- Quality Inn, Best Western, Super 8 — budget options
- Hilton Garden Inn Oneonta — near SUNY Oneonta, full-service
Sidney has additional Hampton/Holiday Inn Express ~20–25 min west if Oneonta sells out.
Cooperstown village hotels & B&Bs (~30–40 min each way)
- The Otesaga Resort — iconic 1909 lakefront grand hotel; premium pricing
- The Inn at Cooperstown — historic Victorian, walkable to Hall of Fame
- Cooperstown Inn & Suites — mid-range, pool, shuttle
- Lake Front Motel & Restaurant — lakefront, walkable to Main Street
- Landmark Inn, Tunnicliff Inn, Hickory Grove, Cooper Inn — smaller options
Many require 2–4 night minimums during tournament season.
Short-term rentals
Vrbo and Airbnb have strong inventory in both Oneonta and Cooperstown. Lake Otsego cabins are premium and often weekly-only (Sat–Sat) — book 6–12 months ahead. Oneonta-area houses are cheaper and good for 2–3 families splitting.
Group booking tips
- Lead time: Book 9–12 months out for peak summer weeks. Oneonta chains sell out by January for summer.
- Group blocks (10+ rooms): Contact each property's sales manager directly — not the front desk.
- Typical concessions: 1 comp room per 10–15 booked (often used for coaches), rate lock, breakfast, meeting/team room, late checkout, 30-day cutoff.
- Coordination: Designate one "team travel parent" to hold the block and collect rooming lists. Most hotels accept a credit-card guarantee on the block master, with families paying their own folios.
What to weigh when choosing
- Proximity: Oneonta = short drives to games (matters on hot 2-game days). Cooperstown village = better off-day experience, but 40-min round trips to every game.
- Breakfast included: High value — early game days start at 8 AM.
- Pool: Major morale factor after long hot days.
- Guest laundry: Critical for week-long stays with dirty uniforms.
- Refrigerator/microwave in room saves on meals.
Check-in & Check-out
- ASV check-in: Sunday afternoon, typically 1:00–4:00 PM (confirm with ASV)
- ASV check-out: Saturday morning after closing ceremonies
Required documents (per player)
- Signed medical release / waiver (ASV's form)
- Copy of insurance card (front & back)
- Birth certificate (original or certified copy — age verification is checked)
- Physical / sports participation form signed by a physician within the last 12 months
- Player photo (sometimes pre-uploaded in the registration portal)
- Parent contact & emergency contact sheet
Coaches typically collect everything into a team packet and present it at registration on arrival.
Meals & Dining
- All meals from Sunday dinner through Saturday breakfast are included for players & coaches.
- Cafeteria-style central dining hall: hot entrees, salad/sandwich/pasta bar, cereals at breakfast, dessert options.
- Dietary accommodations (vegetarian, gluten-free, nut-free, allergies) — contact ASV before arrival.
- Snack bar / concessions on the grounds for between-meal purchases.
- Families eat off-site — not included. Budget ~$100–$150/day for a family of four.
Pin Trading
Pin trading is the cultural centerpiece of an ASV week. Teams design custom pins; players trade with other teams all week.
- Quantity: 50–150 pins per player typical; teams often order 100–200/player from vendors like PinsUSA or HoganPins.
- Carry: Dedicated zippered pin bag, or a lanyard / pin banner to display pins. Available on-site but cheaper to bring your own.
- Etiquette: One-for-one trades are standard; rare / numbered pins may command 2-for-1. Never pressure younger kids into uneven trades — staff watch for this. Trades are final.
- Design ideas: Team name, city, year, mascot. Glitter, spinners, sliders, bobbleheads, and dangles are prized.
- Many players keep two stashes: a "trade" stash and a "keepers" stash.
